The March of the Old Gods
Smugglers, pirates, thieves, and scoundrels are some of what can be found in the city of Freeport. Freeport was originally an area of relatively flat land that smugglers and outlaws would use to lay low from Corvani warships. Eventually, the more powerful pirate captains realized it was more profitable to trade honestly with Corvos than it was to commit piracy, and thus, the city of Freeport was formed.
Freeport now enjoys prosperous trade with Corvos, and serves as a popular retreat for the wealthier denizens of the realm because of it’s warmer climate in comparison to most of the mainland. Freeport has not forgotten it’s roots, and pirates and smugglers still use the city to rearm and restock, just not as publicly as they once would.
Freeport is ruled by a democratically elected captain’s council, which comes from the original inhabitants tendency to defer to the more powerful and generally more knowledgeable captains of the crews.
