The March of the Old Gods
Virnturum was the 4th city within the Kingdom of the Dwarves, and the humans have come to call it the “Kirkwall of the underground”. This is due to the fact that this city is closest in proximity to the Drow, and often faces the brunt of the Drow assaults. However that does not mean the city is always on the defensive side. When the opportunity for a counterattack presents itself, the Dwarves of Virnturum are swift to act, and decisive and brutal when they do.
This city, as is normal, is ruled by a council of lords, however many of the lords on the council are esteemed generals, and at the least skilled warriors. Many of the dwarves greatest heroes hail from Virnturum, and some of the greatest Dwarven generals in history called this city home once upon a time. If travellers are taking the road from Thorfaldur, as they get close to Virnturum, there are many statues built in honor of the various heroes that came from this city.
Virnturum’s legions are the ones that Thorfaldur calls upon when the Dwarves march to war, a fact that the orcs of the mountains and the Dragons of old knew all too well. Many of the soldiers choose to fight and die if it means victory, and they are fond of saying “There is no such thing as a pyrrhic victory in Virnturum”.
